A look at the 2022 Ram defensive front line
Bronx, NY – As we continue to breakdown the 2022 Fordham Rams we move to the defensive side of the ball with a look at the defensive line.
The Rams return three of the four starters from 2021, led by senior captain Jonathan Coste, a preseason All-Patriot League selection. Last year, Coste returned to action after suffering an injury in the spring season, appearing in three games. He made eleven total tackles, six solo, including five for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Other returning starters to the defensive line include senior Alfonzo Dixon, junior Richard Hofusand sophomore Matt Jaworski. Dixon started all eleven games, recording 44 total tackles, 14 solo, including 8.0 for loss and 5.0 sacks. He led team in tackles for loss and sacks. Hofus appeared in nine games, starting six, recording 33 total tackles, 12 solo, including one sack, while Jaworski appeared in ten games as a freshman, starting eight, recording 39 tackle totals, 12 solo, including 5.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Other experienced players returning to the defensive line include grad student Anthony Diodato, who was limited to five games last year by injury; along with seniors Elisha Armstrongwho saw action in three games last fall, and John Turleywho appeared in one game in 2021. Also back are juniors Jason Walkerwho appeared in all eleven games last year making 12 total tackles, and Amir Lyles, who saw action in two games last fall, along with sophomores Jack Lowwho was limited to four games last season by injury, and Tristan Wrightwho appeared in one game last year.
The Rams also welcome a number of newcomers to the defensive line including Claudy Robinsonfrom nearby Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, NJ; Sam Buerkle, a product of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio; Colby Spencerwho played at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut, last year; Michael Thorna graduate of West Nassau High School in Callahan, Florida; Chris Tucka product of New Rochelle High School in New Rochelle, NY; Peter Chalhoub, who played at St. Ignatius Prep in Cleveland, Ohio last year; and Ryan Zolnickfrom Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Mission Viejo, Calif.
